Giddy Up! The Spring Racing Carnival came to life at Jenny MacLeod Retirement Village with a week long festival of activities.
To celebrate the Melbourne Cup, the serviced apartment residents and staff put on their fancy dress outfits to the theme of the ‘Wild West’.
The serviced apartment dining area was transformed into a western saloon bar. It was here that the residents were rounded up for a wild banquet. The legendary pioneering women and men on the catering frontier served up ranch style Texas T Bone enjoyed by all, and not forgetting the flowing champagne to celebrate the race.
The sheriff of the village, Steve Wright gathered all the outback gangs together including the residential outlaws, cowboys and girls, Indians and not to mention the women of the west to watch the race that stops the nation on the big screen TV. The western saloon bar was a flurry of bets for the race as everyone drew breath to spur on their chosen horse. Almandian rode to a famous victory. Bernice Gould took out the sweep for the cup. It was a wild fun day had by all and reminded us that a smile and few laughs is the best medicine.
Julia McLaren said "moving to Jenny MacLeod was the best move for me and I am so well looked after".
