Why is the village called Jenny MacLeod?

Jenny Macleod was a quiet, gracious woman with a warm heart and a deep sense of community. She shared a simple but heartfelt wish with her husband - a local builder in Newcastle. She dreamed of a retirement village where older people could live safely, comfortably, and with dignity.

Tragically, not long after sharing that dream, Jenny became seriously unwell. She was diagnosed with a terminal illness and sadly passed away. Her husband, moved by her vision and determined to honour her memory, helped bring the village to life in the way he knew best - through his work as a builder.

When the retirement village opened its doors in 1984, it bore the name Jenny Macleod Retirement Village; a lasting tribute to the woman who inspired it.
